While not the most invisible of the less visible offices, Ramsey County Attorney campaigns are rarely, if ever, covered by the so-called mainstream media, despite the important nature of this office toward ensuring justice for Ramsey County residents (and that includes the City of St. Paul as well as its near-ring suburbs). The Ramsey County Attorney is chief prosecutor of felonies committed around the county (misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors are prosecuted by the cities) – as well as representing the county in civil litigation. Most important, the County Attorney is the watchdog agency for enforcing orders for and collecting delinquent child support and for ensuring child protection throughout the county.

County Attorneys in Minnesota are nonpartisan, despite the fact that political parties may endorse one candidate over the others. This also means that, from the three candidates vying for the office, the top two vote-getters will move on to the November 2nd General Election. Which of the three will be eliminated remains up to voters who may think that this August primary election is little more than a bothersome interruption in their summer holidays. But, primary elections are critical, not only for setting the tone for the General Election, but for making certain than all voters have a voice as to which of the three may contend for the office. A great candidate can fall by the wayside if the Primary is left only to the activists on each end pof the political spectrum who never fail to show up. The world belongs to those who show up.

TTT‘s ANDY DRISCOLL hosts a conversation among the three county attorney candidates hoping to help voters in Ramsey County decide whom to support.
