TTT1827 July 9 Supreme Court
Once again, the United States Supreme Court was at the center of our national debate as it delivered decisions on issues ranging from collective bargaining and the “Muslim” ban to gerrymandering and Internet privacy. And as the Roberts court concluded its controversial session, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, setting up a confirmation battle that will shape the direction of the court in the years ahead.
University of Minnesota law professor Jill Hasday joins TruthToTell to shed some light on several of these decisions and help us understand the constitutional basis for the confirmation process. She will also share her views on the nation’s evolving perspectives on women’s rights and the Constitution.

TTT1826 July 2 Matt Crews-DSA
Our series of conversations with Minnesota gubernatorial candidates begins with Republican Mathew Kruse, who is challenging GOP-endorsed candidate Jeff Johnson and former governor Tim Pawlenty in the August 14 primary.
To provide some ideological contrast, we’ll also talk with local members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), who are celebrating a victory of one of their own: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who last week beat longtime New York City congressman Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary.
In the weeks ahead, TruthToTell will be interviewing several other candidates for governor, including Johnson, DFL-endorsed Erin Murphy, and DFL challenger Tim Walz. Stay tuned!

Allies on the conservative end of the political spectrum as well as opponents on the left know that the Koch brothers spend a lot of money to influence elections. What is less well known is how their brand of free-market ideology shapes policy-making, business, and educational institutions right here in Minnesota. Star Tribune reporter Judy Keen joins TruthToTell to share what she learned while researching her recent comprehensive article on the Koch brothers.

TTT1824 June 18 Community Food Assistance
You know the old saying, “No good deed goes unpunished.” In the world of politics and public policy, the same holds for good ideas. Food stamps help prevent hunger for millions of Americans. Sustainable agricultural practices support family farmers, rural communities, and the natural environment. The census, ordained in our Constitution, updates and documents the changing face of America every 10 years. What’s not to like?
TTT talks to three guests who champion these and other ideas that serve the common good: Katie Costello, Community Food System Program associate for the Institute of Agriculture and Trade Policy; Ben Anderson, policy director of the Land Stewardship Project; and Bob Tracy, director of public policy at the Minnesota Council on Foundations.

TTT1824 June 11 Politics Progressive Ideas
While much of the media is focusing on the scramble of candidates following the 2018 DFL convention, little attention has been given to the delegates themselves. Where did they come from? What issues did they care about? What organizations did they represent? And will they be able to appeal across urban and rural boundaries to forge a winning coalition in November?
To help illuminate these and other questions, TruthToTell is joined by three guests who seek to connect progressive issues to a message with statewide appeal.
The Reverend Oby Ballinger, one of scores of “faith delegates” committed to a social-justice agenda.
Chris Conry, strategic campaign director, Take Action Minnesota.
David Bly, retiring DFL representative from District 20B, a Greater Minnesota district that includes the communities of Northfield, Lonsdale, and Montgomery.

TTT1823 June 4 Latino politics
The Twin Cities area is facing a housing crisis. Rents and housing prices are sky high; vacancy rates low. The fight for affordable housing takes different shapes in different communities. What remains central is remembering the individuals and families who depend not only on shelter, but thriving communities and a place they can call home.
Joining TruthToTell are guests from two communities that are connecting the dots. Greta Callahan is a resident of Minneapolis and an active member of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers who sees the impact housing instability has on low-income families. Richfield City Council Member Maria Regan Gonzales is committed to keeping her city a place where families of all income levels can survive and thrive.
