Who are the people and institutions planning the public response before the worst happens? What can citizens do before, during and after disaster strikes to respond to the crises?
To find out, TruthToTell talks with Eric Waage, director of the Hennepin County Office of Emergency Services, and Laura Millberg, who works on climate change mitigation planning with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

Homelessness in the American Indian community is no secret. Yet programs designed to address it often don’t connect with American Indian culture. So, over the past few weeks, hundreds of Native Americans have created their own response: An encampment that offers hope and community along with formidable health and safety challenges. Is this a defining moment? Can city and community leaders take this opportunity to creatively design approaches that actually work for the community?
To find out, TruthToTell talks with Patina Park, executive director of the Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center and chair of the Council of Metropolitan Urban Indian Directors, and David Hewitt, director of the Hennepin County Office to End Homelessness.

TTT1834 August 27 Shorter Work Week
We’ve all heard the predictions. As robots, driverless vehicles, and smart machines reduce the need for human labor, millions of jobs now done by people will become obsolete. John Crea, author of Recalibrating the Labor Market: How to Have Your Cake and Time to Eat It Too, thinks the time is right to replace the 40-hour work week with a shorter standard. Even better, he shows how this can be done without a reduction in weekly take-home pay. The result, Crea argues, will be stronger communities, more creative workers, and a better work-life balance.
