Over the past several months, thousands of children have arrived at the Mexican-U.S. border, unaccompanied by adults and without immigration papers. This is nothing new — young refugees from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatamala, in particular, have been showing up at the border since 2004. The sheer scale of this most recent exodus, however, has sparked a political debate in Congress and across the nation — including in Minnesota.
On this Monday’s program Truth to Tell co-hosts Siobahn Kierans and Tom O’Connell will explore the many dimensions of this border crises. Who are these children, anyway? Are they illegal immigrants? Refugees? How are they being cared for at the border? What fate awaits them if they are deported? And finally, here on the northern border, what can Minnesotans do to help?
